On Saturday, January 30, Salem Art Works and the Salem Area Youth Association conducted an all day event
to officially open the SAW pond to public skating. A good crowd showed up to skate despite the cold - high of 14 degrees.
Thanks to those who baked the free goodies, to the Salem Rotary for providing hot dogs, sausage and peppers to benefit
Haiti and the foreign student exchange program, to Peter Carollan and the Courthouse Community Center for bringing the tunes, to the Shoppe Off Broadway for providing the free rental skates, to Randy Dumas for for cleaning and sharpening the skates donated by the public, to Eric and Fred from the Village for their help with the ice, to Charlie Perry, Al Cormier and Jay Cummings for their advice, and especially to Anthony Cafritz, Director of SAW, for the great idea!!
